Acceptable Use Policy

Overview

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of the Retio platform. It supplements our Terms of Service. Violation of this AUP may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account.

Permitted Uses

Retio is designed for legitimate patent intelligence purposes:

  • Analyzing the structural landscape around your own patents
  • Searching for structurally similar litigation cases to inform legal strategy
  • Monitoring new patent publications for structural overlap with your portfolio
  • Supporting internal portfolio analysis, due diligence, and strategic planning
  • Providing structural data to qualified legal professionals for their independent analysis

Prohibited Uses

Bad-Faith Patent Assertions

You may not use Retio outputs to support bad-faith patent assertions, including but not limited to:

  • Sending demand letters or cease-and-desist notices based solely on Retio structural similarity scores
  • Threatening litigation without independent legal analysis beyond Retio outputs
  • Using Retio to identify targets for mass licensing campaigns

Misrepresentation

  • Presenting Retio outputs as legal opinions, infringement analyses, or validity determinations
  • Claiming that structural similarity implies patent infringement
  • Representing Retio as a law firm, patent attorney service, or legal advisor
  • Removing or obscuring AI disclosure notices from exported reports

Unauthorized Practice of Law

  • Using Retio to provide legal advice to third parties
  • Offering Retio-based analysis as a substitute for qualified patent counsel

Anti-Competitive Conduct

  • Coordinating licensing demands with other patent holders using Retio data
  • Using Retio outputs to fix royalty rates or engage in group boycotts

Technical Abuse

  • Automated scraping, crawling, or bulk extraction of Retio data
  • Reverse engineering Retio's proprietary embedding models or algorithms
  • Attempting to reconstruct original patent text from embedding vectors
  • Circumventing rate limits, access controls, or credit requirements
  • Accessing the Service from U.S.-sanctioned or embargoed countries

Enforcement

Retio reserves the right to:

  • Suspend or terminate accounts that violate this AUP
  • Remove or restrict access to specific reports or features
  • Report violations to relevant authorities where required by law

Reporting Violations

If you become aware of a violation of this AUP, please report it to legal@retio.ai. We investigate all reports and take appropriate action.
